Marian Hossa, Atlanta Thrashers
Regular Season: 43 goals, 57 assists, +18 Plus/Minus, Salary $6 million
Playoffs: 4 games, 0 goals, 1 assist, -6 Plus/Minus, 10 shots with 18:55 TOI/game.Hossa led the Thrashers to their first division title and playoff berth, generating plenty of excitement for an Atlanta team still trying to establish itself. But once the postseason started, Hossa just got shut down. The story was nicely summed up by a blogger at Thrasher's Talons after the Game 4 elimination by the Rangers: "Once again the top regular season line with Hossa and Kovlov was not relevant to the outcome of the game."
Hm. I agree that Hossa was a disappointment, but not the biggest disappointment in the NHL. I'm biased I guess. Despite the extreme biased I have, I was most disappointment by...the team. I think it may be slightly unfair to single out Marian Hossa. Just like it's unfair to single out Kari or Walt or anyone else. Everything is a team effort. Do I think Hossa failed to deliver? Yes, dear lord yes, however, one person cannot bring a team down. I said this before, failure is not a one person thing. If you have to blame someone, blame Hartley, I'd say. He's the one that makes the choices. But hey, it's over, Hartley's back and Hossa's doing well in Russia. So that's that.
