The end of the darft...the beginning of the sign and resign

Exciting isn't it? We picked up four prospects this year, and like was said on the Blueland blog, they may be flawed, but they're ours now! Welcome aboard boys!

But to be honest, this isn't really what the Thrashers fans were looking forward to at the end of the 2006-2007 season, was it? Anyone that knows the Thrashers and was alive during the playoffs knows that the real question lies with who is going to be resigned. Free Agent signing starts next Sunday. It be completely honest with you, I'm on the edge of my seat wondering what's going to happen with our free agents. Aren't you? Not only what's going to happen with our free agents, but who we're going to try to get on board for the Thrashers for the next season, or if that will even happen with the prospects we signed? Let's not put all of our eggs in one basket. Would a big switch-up hurt us rather than help?

The Thrashers were the oldest team in the NHL last season, which turned out to literally slow the team down in the playoffs. You all watched it, it was like a youngbloods verus the Vets match. Building a faster and a stronger team is hard without veterns though, merely because there is a level of maturity and knowledge that goes along with the skills, so there is an obvious need for a balance. With the amount of free agents the Thrashers have, it will be a busy weekend for the team. Especially compared to the draft weekend which, compared to many teams, was rather uneventful (That's what happens when you don't have a first round pick).

First of all, we know that Thachuk won't be offered a contract before July 1. theFourthperiod.com also provides information that Waddell will be trying to lock up a longer contract with Marian Hossa starting in July. And from information provided in that article and the radio talk with Dr. Bernie Mullin, it is apparant that the Thrashers will try their damnest to resign Slava Kozlov. Though, when Waddell said "I won't real anything out," on Tkachuk, we all know that means that he was just a rental. Will anyone else be really surprised if he resigns, because to be quite honest, I will be. Other than that, it's just a big waiting game for the fans. I made predictions early this year, but we all know that I'm hardly every correct. Like I said, a big waiting game, and I'm sure that I'm going to be really surprised when the day comes.

Ideas? Comments? What do you think?
